Pressure dependence of the elastic moduli in aluminum-rich Al-Li compounds.

چکیده
I have carried out numerical first principles calculations of the pressure dependence of the elastic moduli for several ordered structures in the Aluminum-Lithium system, specifically FCC Al, FCC and BCC Li, L12 Al3Li, and an ordered FCC Al7Li supercell. The calculations were performed using the full potential linear augmented plane wave method (LAPW) to calculate the total energy as a function of strain, after which the data was fit to a polynomial function of the strain to determine the modulus. A procedure for estimating the errors in this process is also given. The predicted equilibrium lattice parameters are slightly smaller than found experimentally, consistent with other LDA calculations. The computed elastic moduli are within approximately 10% of the experimentally measured moduli, provided the calculations are carried out at the experimental lattice constant. The LDA equilibrium shear modulus C11 − C12 increases from 59.3 GPa in Al, to 76.0 GPa in Al7Li, to 106.2 GPa in Al3Li. The modulus C44 increases from 38.4 GPa in Al to 46.1 GPa in Al7Li, then falls to 40.7 GPa in Al3Li. All of the calculated elastic moduli increase with pressure with the exception of BCC Li, which becomes elastically unstable at about 2 GPa, where C11 − C12 vanishes.

Molecular Dynamics Investigation of The Elastic Constants and Moduli of Single Walled Carbon Nanotubes
Determination of the mechanical properties of carbon nanotubes is an essential step in their applications from macroscopic composites to nano-electro-mechanical systems. In this paper we report the results of a series of molecular dynamics simulations carried out to predict the elastic constants, i.e. the elements of the stiffness tensor, and the elastic moduli, namely the Young’s and shear mod...
متن کاملAb-initio calculation of the pressure dependence of phonons and elastic constants for Al and Li
2014 We calculated the interionic potentials for aluminium and lithium from first principle pseudopotentials. We constructed these pseudopotentials from the induced electron densities around an aluminium nucleus and around a lithium nucleus respectively. Then we calculated the phonon dispersion curves and the elastic constants. We repeated the whole calculation for several values of pressure by...

There are evidences showing that adverse impacts of aluminum (Al) on plants growth and development are associated with its effect on plasma membrane and cell wall. Influence of Al on peroxidation of membrane lipids, wall-bound phenolics, lignin, soluble phenolics and the activity of certain enzymes involved in metabolism of phenols, i.e., phenylalanine ammonia lyase (PAL) and polyphenol oxidase...

[1] The single-crystal elastic properties of high-spin (Mg0.94Fe0.06)O ferropericlase were measured by Brillouin spectroscopy on a sample compressed to 20 GPa with diamond anvil cells using methanol-ethanol-water as a pressure-transmitting medium. At room pressure, the adiabatic bulk (K0S) and shear (m0S) moduli are K0S = 163 ± 3 GPa and m0S = 121 ± 2 GPa, in excellent agreement with ultrasonic...
